An initial visit and an annual contract are different purchases. Before choosing either, ask what problem has been identified, what work is proposed and which conditions you need to change. The cheapest visit is not necessarily the least expensive complete plan.
Ask what the inspection established
Record the identified pest, affected locations and the evidence supporting that identification. Ask whether the quote is based on an inspection or only a phone description. Keep provisional conclusions marked as provisional. A plan should explain what it addresses rather than simply promising that a technician will spray.
Compare the work and the products
EPA recommends considering competence as well as cost and checking the provider’s credentials. Ask for the products and labels, where treatment is proposed and what precautions apply. Ask how the underlying source of the problem will be addressed. Verify requirements with the relevant authority in your location; this website does not certify providers.
Separate the initial fee from recurring charges
Write down the first charge, later visits, the number of included follow-ups, inspection fees and any exclusions. Ask whether a return visit is part of the original scope or a new charge. If the plan renews automatically, request the renewal and cancellation terms before accepting it.
Make the guarantee measurable
Ask exactly which pest and areas are covered, how to report continued activity, what response is included and whether damage repair is excluded. Preserve the written terms with your observation record. A sales phrase such as ‘guaranteed protection’ does not by itself explain the service you are buying.
Your takeaway checklist
- Identification and inspection basis stated
- Work areas and treatment approach clear
- Credentials checked with the relevant authority
- First and recurring charges separated
- Follow-up and cancellation terms saved
